Climbing shoes: $4 a day but free for first time guests
There’s a lot to learn in climbing. We have classes we’d recommend for this.
Our instructors are our staff—they’re all obsessed with climbing. They’ll introduce you to bouldering and the facility and help you get better at climbing, faster.
Climbing classes are a good mix of instruction, fun, hard, success, failure, laughter, and maybe the occasional swear word.
If you’re new to bouldering or if you want a refresher on the basics, this is a 45-minute class that gets you up to speed on the facility, safety, etiquette, and fundamentals of bouldering.
Zero to sixty in 45 minutes. Pretty fast.
Classes are offered every Saturday at 3:30pm. Intro to ABP is free with your day pass, punch-card, or membership.
Intermediate Bouldering is intended for those looking to improve their core climbing technique, or those not yet comfortable climbing the purple circuit (V3-V4). It’s goal is to give students an understanding of basic climbing movements and how to apply them.
These concepts will provide a foundation for the more complex movements that occur at higher grades. They will also be introduced to the mental aspects of climbing and how they affect climbing performance. Students should be able to leave the class with an idea of what good, technical movement is and how to practice these movements on their own.
Classes are offered every Monday and Wednesday at 7pm and every Saturday at 4:30pm. Intermediate Bouldering is free with your day pass, punch card, or membership.
Online registration closes two hours prior to the start of each class. You can sign-up at the front desk within two hours of class, as long as there’s space available.

CLIMBING IS DANGEROUS. CLIMBING PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT INHERENT RISK OF SERIOUS PHYSICAL INJURY, INCLUDING PARALYSIS OR DEATH. WHEN YOU OR THE CHILDREN FOR WHOM YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE CLIMB AT THE AUSTIN BOULDERING PROJECT, YOU VOLUNTARILY ASSUME ALL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH CLIMBING. THE FLOORING WILL NOT PREVENT INJURY OR DEATH. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.
Any youth (younger than 14) must be actively supervised by the adult who is responsible for them during their visit to the gym. Any parent, guardian or chaperone responsible for a youth must maintain direct supervision over the youth during the entirety of their visit. An adult cannot supervise more than 3 youth at a time.
Never climb above, below, or near another climber. Never stand, sit, or walk in an area where another climber could fall.
No running, yelling, rough housing, or acrobatics (flips, cartwheels, handstands, etc.).
No jumping from structures. Topping out is only allowed on top-out structures.
Keep climbing area clear of hazards – personal items (water bottles, clothes, etc.) should be placed in cubbies and lockers. No food or drink on padding.
Everyone must wear shoes and a shirt.
Immediately report any problems with the walls, equipment, or any other concerns, to a member of the staff.
Fitness equipment (including the rope and gymnastic rings) may only be used by people 14 and over. No playing allowed on fitness equipment.
No climbing while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Everyone must have a signed, completed waiver on file. Those younger than 18 years old must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Everyone at the Austin Bouldering Project must check in at the front desk at the beginning of every visit. If you have not checked in, you do not have permission to climb or use abp facilities.
Before beginning any fitness program or changing your physical activity patterns, you should always consult with your doctor or physician, particularly if you have been inactive, are overweight, or have or suspect any sort of medical condition that might be worsened by exercise.
Groups and Parties
Minimum of 5 climbers and maximum of 30 climbers.
*Groups larger than 30 climbers are considered on a case by case basis.
Groups must book through email@example.com to receive discounted rates.

- Youth (17 and younger) $10
All prices include gym access and rental shoes.
- Monday-Friday: 6am-4pm
- Saturday & Sunday: 9am, 12pm and 4pm-8pm
Discounted group rates are only offered during the hours listed above. Groups are welcome to book outside of these hours and purchase regular priced day passes at $16 for adults and $12 for youth.
Groups with 15 or more youth under the age of 14 are required to have an ABP Instructor for the duration of their visit. Instructors are $15/hr.
Bookings must be done at least one week in advance through firstname.lastname@example.org to receive discounted rates. Group bookings requiring instruction must be made two weeks in advance.
To ensure the best check-in experience possible we require the names of everyone that will be climbing with your group at least 24 hours in advance. Discounted group rates will only be available for climbers that we have names of ahead of time. Any climbers that we do not have names for ahead of time may purchase regular priced day passes.
Everyone visiting ABP, even those who are not climbing, must have a completed waiver. Please have all waivers completed online 24 hrs before your group arrives.
All groups receive a gym orientation covering general climbing basics, rules and safety. Groups interested in more instruction may opt for an ABP instructor to be with their group for $15/hr.
Supervision for youth under 14 years old is required at all times. In youth climbing areas 1 adult can supervise up to 3 youth. In the adult climbing area 1 adult can supervise up to 2 youth.
ABP reserves the right to turn away any large unscheduled group.
